User Experience Technical Writer

Sonos is seeking an experienced technical writer to join our UX writing team in Boston. In this role you’ll focus on making the customer experience simple, uncomplicated, and fun. You’ll join a team of talented writers who work closely with colleagues from user experience, user research, product management, and software development to analyze content from a variety of sources, discern what’s essential, and express relevant information to our customers in a clear and straightforward way.

What You’ll Do

Write high quality, easy-to-understand setup and usage instructions for Sonos products, using data and metrics as well as logic and empathy to inform content choices. 

Craft simple and direct UI copy that guides users smoothly through the app and helps them interact with it. Use your strong communication skills to ensure a unified voice provides a cohesive narrative across multiple touch points, platforms, and UX designers.

  • Deliver in-box quick start guides, online user guides, and online help for both mobile and desktop.

  • Act as an advocate for Sonos customers. Anticipate learning needs by understanding their behaviors.

  • Work closely with Sonos cross-functional teams to create customer documentation solutions that evolve over time with our products.

  • Travel to other Sonos offices, up to 10% of the time.

Skills You’ll Need

    • Minimum 5+ years’ experience planning, writing, and editing customer documentation.
    • Experience writing UI copy a big plus.
    • BA/BS in a related field.
    • Strong working knowledge of content management and online publishing tools.
    • Demonstrated interest and aptitude to learn the underlying complexity of a new product or software feature and translate it into simple, easy-to-understand user instructions.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in cross-functional teams.
    • Strong grammar and writing skills.
    • Great organizational skills, relentless attention to detail, and the agility to work with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
    • Experience working in an Agile development environment a plus.
    • A current portfolio of writing samples.
