UX Design Director - Voice and Music Services

Sonos is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our UX team. In this role, you’ll lead and strengthen a team of designers in the strategy and execution of a critical area - the evolution of user experiences within voice and music services. Driving and executing against the roadmap you’ll work with colleagues from Sonos design, research, product management, brand and software development, and teams from our strategic voice and music service partners, to craft strategies, share product visions and build compelling user experiences from concept to final product.

What You’ll Do
You’re a design leader. You have an excellent record of leading teams to deliver products of the highest quality. You lead both the interactive and visual aspects of the design process, and through excellent interpersonal skills and working relationships you ensure alignment across all disciplines. You comprehend complex systems, turning them into efficient, delightful and cohesive app experiences across multiple platforms. You think strategically, but also execute projects with attention to detail. You thrive in a dynamic environment and stay on the leading edge of app experience trends, OS evolution, design processes and UX tools.

You’re a people leader. You are recognized as a phenomenal people manager. Ensuring your team can work efficiently and effectively is one of your key responsibilities, and of paramount importance to you. You know how to champion your team, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and grow their careers. You have a track record of successfully guiding designers to bring out their best results in both the short and long term, and you take real pleasure in doing so.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide design leadership, strategic guidance and detailed tactical direction for Sonos voice and music service experiences
  • Deliver strong project and career management for Sonos designers
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, software, and external partners
  • Advocate for Sonos users as you strive to make the right product
  • Travel to other Sonos offices, up to 10% of time, and travel to partner locations as needed
Skills You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, such as user experience design, industrial design, graphic design
  • 10 +years of experience in user experience design and/or user interface design.
  • 5 + years of experience providing project direction and career development to design teams
  • Extensive experience in the user experience design, including voice UI and mobile applications
  • Shown success in driving teams to design products that are both pleasurable and easy to use
  • Rich experience in sharing design directions and experience visions with stakeholders and clients
  • Ability to work within time and technical constraints while deliver outstanding user experiences
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in cross-functional teams
  • Deep experience working with software engineers in the Agile process
  • Aptitude for taking input from multiple sources and synthesizing it into coherent designs
  • A current portfolio available for viewing
