Tooling and Process Engineer SBE Transducers

Be part of the revolution as the Tooling and Process Engineer at Sonos!  

As a Tooling and Process Engineer you will be responsible for delivery and validation of both prototype and production tooling designs and fabrication tools for all new transducer products. You will also be responsible for ensure tooling maintenance programs are in place for all current programs and ensure the suppler provides and maintains current bill of materials for all tooling and has revision control in place.

You will work with our global team including our internal Process, Transducer, Mechanical, Quality Engineers and Supply Chain Management to help identify appropriate suppliers for our tool steel and tool fabrication suppliers. You will review and approve all tooling designs used for delivering transducer products, ensuring, by design, that the tooling supports our critical part performance and cosmetic characteristics.

You will call tooling design reviews with our suppliers to ensure the product design intent is baked into the fundamental tooling design. You will then lead the internal tooling review and gain sign-off from our global Sonos team prior to tool release. You will have strong program leadership skills also to ensure the supplier is on track from a program perspective.

You will evaluate prototype and production off tool parts and make modifications to tooling as necessary to ensure part and tooling production capability is engineered into the tooling. You will assist the suppler during all tooling trials and during all start-ups of production tooling. 

Take the leading role in driving continues improvement efforts as it relates to tooling techniques and cost reduction efforts. You will train engineers at supplier plants to utilize new tooling materials and fabrication techniques. You will drive supplier process improvement activities.

Develop collaborative relationships with suppliers through training and quality control visits and recommending to supplier plants the correct process controls and tooling maintains programs to have in place.

You will stay current on advanced tooling and in-mold assemble techniques. Solving challenging engineering problems in a multi-cultural global business is a passion and strong skill set of yours.

What You’ll Do
  • 5-8+ years of tool design and fabrication experience with heavy focus on plastics injection molds.
  • Deep understanding and experience with high volume tooling methodology and implementation.
  • Experience with tight tolerance tooling and resolving out of spec issues.
  • Experience in plastic molding, metal casting, metal extrusion and metal stamping tooling.
  • Strong material knowledge of plastics and metals as it relates to tooling development
  • Proficient with the use of DFM, GD&T, SPC, DOE and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Experience in tooling design utilizing Mold Flow software or equivalent.
  • Experienced working with supplier plants to deliver high volume tooling programs.
  • Managing multiple development programs at the same time.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Skills You’ll Need
  • BS in Mechanical, Plastics Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with the delivery of high volume consumer electronics or automotive tooling programs.
  • Engineering program management background.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English.
