About You

Our band is large. And while there’s plenty of room for all kinds of personalities and skill sets to succeed, there are certain qualities that will help you thrive here.

Like a never-accept-less work ethic. An exceptionally low ego-to-talent ratio (none of the first, tons of the latter). A relentless craving to push past your limits and try new things. The smarts and the humble confidence to take on big challenges, make mistakes fast and early, embrace tough feedback, then recover quickly with fresh, startlingly perfect solutions. A fearless willingness to defend great work. And a tendency to totally geek out on music.

What You’ll Do
We are looking for a Technical Project Lead (TPL) with extensive technical capability to manage product cost-downs. Sonos has a dedicated Continuing and Sustaining engineering (CaSE) team dedicated to improving the gross margin of our products as part of an overall company strategy.

The CaSE team’s role is to drive design and manufacturing process changes which will have a significant effect on product COGM. It only takes on projects which have a significant ROI and hence it’s important that the team be able to provide accurate forecasts of investment costs and schedules in the planning phase, deliver to plan during the execution phase and provide accurate roll-ups when projects are complete.

You, as a TPL, will be responsible for the planning, managing the execution and providing the roll-up. This is a highly influential role and will report to the Sr. Director, Continuing and Sustaining Engineering.
Skills You’ll Need
Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate project budgets and schedules in order to support project viability studies.
  • Detailed project planning with global cost down teams including suppliers, contract manufacturer and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • You will lead project team meetings during all phases of projects including with Asia based team members and suppliers.
  • You will have project details at your fingertips for reporting at senior management level thus enabling effective communication of project status at exec level.
  • Communicate with the “team” to ensure everyone has specific direction, goals, knowledge of what’s happening around them, and their impact on the program.
  • Communicate with all contributing teams and team members  so that there is no question about where we are in projects in ALL functional areas, where we’re struggling and succeeding, where the risks and issues are, and how we’re managing through them.
  • Ensure that costs and labor are managed and measured such that ROI forecasts are spot-on and that project roll-ups are accurate.
  • Travel to our China suppliers and contract manufacturer in order to support builds and resolve technical problems as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead by influence in a cross-functional, global environment.
  • Experience and capability in project budgets and planning.
  • Understanding of project finance fundamentals.

  • Direct, successful experience working with Asia based suppliers and manufactures.
  • Direct experience either designing or working to manufacture highly complex products
  • Engineering degree in either EE or ME.
