User Research, part of the product team at Sonos, seeks to help the company understand the world, as novelist Marcel Proust wrote, “through the eyes of another,” our customers.

You will be joining a User Research team who has an expertise in conducting qualitative research. Your role will be to integrate the right quantitative data into research projects to bring the needs of users to life, and help our colleagues empathize with and act on those needs.  Our team identifies opportunities for meaningful questions, projects and initiatives to inspire long-term strategy and product development.

There will be a unique opportunity for you to pursue a hybrid research approach that unites qualitative insights with quantitative discoveries. This approach will help to nurture a company culture keenly focused on human needs and understanding by “telling the user’s story.”

What You’ll Do
  • Work collaboratively with researchers to perform analysis, statistical validation, and visualization of data and trends. There will also be opportunities for you to identify and run your own projects.
  • Partner with the Product Data team to understand how best to analyze the Sonos system data to answer specific research questions around user behavior.
  • Engage and communicate with the product team to share your data insights, as well as collaborate on solutions and future directions. 
  • Create methods and best practices that User Research can use to better understand and leverage quantitative data in order to better understand the user.

Skills You’ll Need
  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Science or a related field that requires statistics or related experience
  • Background in applied statistics, including hypothesis testing, basic modeling (correlation, regression, etc.), data management, and visualization.
  • Some experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL, Tableau), scripting languages (e.g. Python, Java), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab)
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when translating technical findings for a non-technical audience.
