Sonos Beta lives at the crossroads of Customer Support, Product, Marketing, Development, and our testers. We are a multidisciplinary team of program managers, user researchers, test analysts, and test engineers who collaborate closely with one another as well as with Product Management, Design, and QA to create innovative, usable, great-looking products that people love to use. Our work directly influences product strategy and is used by multiple teams within the organization. In order to collect actionable data that can be used to make informed decisions about our products and user experience, we need to deliver the ultimate experience to our key stakeholders and testers. 

As a User Research Intern on the Beta team, you will have a wide range of responsibilities, including hands-on research. Your primary duties will be to help support the Beta Research team during various stages of the product development process. Your work will span all of Sonos’ products, and you will be encouraged to identify internal process improvements as well as new opportunities for user experience improvements.The right individual for this internship is someone who is highly collaborative, takes initiative, and who is passionate about the intersection of technology and sound.

What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with Beta Program Management and other teams at Sonos to identify research requirements by understanding their questions, product and business requirements, as well as their timelines for product features
  • Determine how to utilize our many data collection platforms to gather credible, actionable data from Beta testers based on stakeholder needs
  • Draft, build, review, and analyze surveys 
  • Assist Beta Researchers in conducting user research studies including recruiting participants, creating study protocols, and collecting and analyzing data, and surfacing insights
  • Work with data analysts to develop a natural language process for identifying issues reported by testers
  • Communicate research findings and prioritized recommendations to internal stakeholders in a clear and compelling way

Skills You’ll Need
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, information science, statistics, data science, or a related field
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages, such as C++, Java, Python, or Matlab
  • Relevant internship, work experience, or project experience in an applied research setting, including, but not limited to, integrating user research into product designs and design practice

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to be resourceful and organized; able to hunt down and keep track of information and evaluate sources for quality
  • Keenly observant and able to synthesize and effectively share information
  • Fascinated by people and understanding their motivations and behavior
