We are looking for a motivated student with an uncompromising work ethic who is interested in learning on the job by helping out with our day to day work and/or taking on a special project appropriate to the applicants interests and qualifications, and the team’s needs and requirements.

About You

More than a candidate that checks every box, we’re looking for people who are excited to work, learn, and grow at Sonos—no matter their background or how they identify. If that’s you, we hope you’ll apply for this role.

You want to be part of a team.

You come with new ideas and a unique point of view. You look forward to collaborating with a diverse team of individuals. You assume everyone’s best intentions, welcome a healthy debate, and embrace differing opinions. You eagerly seek and give help. Transparency tops your list of values, and you proactively contribute to a culture of respect and inclusion.

You enjoy a challenge.

Inquisitive and focused, you see every challenge as an opportunity. You’re ambitious and comfortable making mistakes because you learn from them and bounce back quickly. You would rather create the future than wait for it. You prioritize long-term value over short-term objectives.

You approach every interaction with curiosity and a desire to understand. You want to make a positive impact in the world. You’re passionate about culture and know the power that music, film, podcasts, games, and stories have to bring people together.

What You’ll Do

As an intern on the Sonos Hardware Labs Team, you will gain exposure and help out on a variety of different things. Depending on your experience and interests, duties could include:

  • Supporting engineers by accomplishing various kinds of electrical and disassembly / reassembly work, such as taking a unit apart, modifying the electrical or mechanical components, etc., then reassembling the unit and returning to the engineer.
  • Support engineers by performing various test plans and procedures, such as capturing signal waveforms on circuit board data lines using an oscilloscope in order to verify the signal integrity of the waveform, or by placing samples or units in certain environmental or electrical or operating conditions in order to test their integrity or durability or continued operation.
  • Take on a special project such as building a piece of custom test equipment, helping to perform advanced testing, such as FEA drop testing or solar load testing, or help other teams with such projects and testing, such as Sustaining Engineering safety / failure investigations and analysis.
Skills You’ll Need

Basic Qualifications:

  • Majoring in BSEE or equivalent technical program.
  • Experience using basic electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, etc.
  • Understanding of the fundamental concepts and analytical tools of circuit analysis and electronics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using a soldering iron and reworking PCBA’s, especially experience with surface mount components (vs. through hole components).
  • Experience with Linux and with scripting languages (Perl preferred, python is a strong plus.)
