Sonos seeks a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience designing electro mechanical systems for high volume mass production.  The successful candidate will be joining a team of highly skilled, energetic Mechanical Engineers who collaborate as a team and help each other solve complex design challenges.  The team is a diverse group of detail oriented, naturally inquisitive, and driven individuals committed to creating great products.

What You’ll Do

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key contributing supporter of the ME Technical Lead.  As a critical team member, you will:

    • Own design and architecture of complex product parts/subassemblies, and potentially lead low complexity projects.
    • Be part of the ME team and collaborate cross-functionally with Industrial Design, Electrical, Antenna/Radio, and other engineering teams as well as external development partners
    • Use engineering structural and tolerance analysis skills to ensure quality of deliverables
    Skills You’ll Need
    • 8+ years experience in mechanical design and significant experience designing for mass production.

    • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree

    • Experience collaborating cross functionally with Industrial Design, Electrical, and other engineering groups

    • Experience in material selection and design for plastic, metal and elastomeric  parts

    • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, die-casting, stamping, thermoforming, machining, finishing/decorating etc.

    • Experience building and managing BOMs

    • Experience providing input to schedule

    • Strong 3D modeling skills (experienced with 2D spec generation and/or ability to guide draftsperson in this work)

    • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10-15%


    Preferred:

    • Experience with Siemens NX

    • Mechanical design of consumer electronics

    • Experience designing for both indoor and outdoor applications

    • Experience mentoring and leading junior engineers

    • Experience working with Asian based contract manufacturers and directing activities during prototype builds, including process and fixture definition

    • Understanding of product quality metrics and methods including GD&T, DFMEA, Statistical Process Control (SPC).

    • Ability to speak Mandarin
