Software Development Manager - Customer Experience Technology

We're looking for a Software Development Manager in the Sonos Customer Experience Technology team to help us grow, shape culture and focus on developing the technology that will make us the best customer experience team in our class. You will collaborate with people who work directly with our customers, end to end across their customer journey from awareness through advocacy. You’ll deeply understand what our customer needs, and passionately use that knowledge to build platforms and tools that put the customer experience first.  Those tools will support our internal Customer Experience operations team and will also be available through self-service options on the web.

We're a global team looking for the best talent. This role is based in one of our beautiful offices in Boston, Seattle or Santa Barbara, but you’ll be working with bandmates located in multiple locations.

What You’ll Do
  • Hire, mentor, and retain top engineering talent. 

  • Lead a team of 6 high performing engineers working on multiple projects and releases. 

  • Work with stakeholders across the organization, you will develop processes and strategies for producing new features, products and tools that delight our customers.  

  • Examine what is expected of your team and generate technical design and architecture is also something you will be expected to do in this role. 

  • Design, develop, and drive technical solutions for Customer Relationship Management needs identified by our Business Analysts. 

  • Implement and integrate services on the Salesforce Platform in that are efficient, high quality, maintainable, and extendible for future needs.

  • Lead SW development efforts on product diagnostics processing, APIs, and data handling

  • Design efficient data storage, replication, and reporting.

  • Own quality of the code by performing SW design and code reviews, working closely with the QA team towards automated testing. 

  • Debug and troubleshoot problems across different layers of the software stack and across several system services.


Skills You’ll Need

  • 6+ years of experience in software development with at least 2+ years of managing or leading software engineering teams.  

  • Expert in at least one programming language (Python, C#, or Java, Java Script, Salesforce).

  • Experience with Agile development environments.

  • Being a creative problem solver with an understanding of the unique challenges and benefits to developing people-centric applications is a must.  

  • Highly proficient in modern web development, including React, CSS utility frameworks and Express/node.js and you have a desire to learn new environments and manage across multiple platforms (eg. Salesforce). 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

  •  Preferred:

    • Understand DevOps principles (CI/CD, version control, unit testing, etc.) and experience with Amazon Web Services is preferred.

    • Deep experience in managing engineers working together on large software projects.

    • Adept at communicating technical concepts clearly and effectively, not only to other engineers, but especially to those that are not engineers. 

    • Proven track record of shipping reliable, extensible and maintainable software.
