Senior Technical Product Manager - Voice / Smart Audio

We are looking for a highly technical Senior Product Manager/Product Owner to work closely with the core Sonos Audio engineering and research team to build the most cutting-edge technology on speech, voice capture, Trueplay and smart audio in the home.    


The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an engineering leader or technical product manager in building software to support voice, speech in hardware products, and experience with Voice Assistant platforms in the market is a huge plus. 


In this role, you will need to possess outstanding communication and collaboration skills. You will influence the strategy for Voice & Smart Audio, work closely with external and internal partners (including making vendor selection decisions), and lead executive briefings. 


You will be leading efforts across multiple teams at Sonos, so your ability to work across teams in a positive and collaborative way is key.

What You’ll Do


  • Owns product backlog for Voice & Smart Audio; provides day-to-day guidance, prioritization and decision-making as the team’s Product Owner 
  • Writes technical product requirements and defines performance and success metrics
  • Presents the “voice of the customer” and owns the tradeoffs for performance vs. cost vs. risk vs. time for a specific implementation
  • Provides direct input into the overall voice strategy and experience roadmap
  • Represents product/customer requirements when engaging with 3rd party technology vendors and provides input on vendor selection
  • Gathers information how voice and other smart audio features are used by customer (market intelligence/competitive analysis, academic research, in-house experimentation in cooperation with UX Research)
Skills You’ll Need

This role requires strong technical, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and as a successful candidate, you are passionate about music and technology.


  • Background in Computer Science, Acoustics, or a related field
  • Experience with embedded systems is required; you have previously shipped software supporting a hardware product
  • Strong familiarity with the audio/voice competitive marketplace, what types of solutions exist, and how they perform
  • The ideal candidate is familiar with large-scale data collection, quantitative testing and evaluation (Voice Services, User Behavior)
  • Understanding of DSP, voice, speech, wake word detection and/or machine learning is highly desired
