Sonos is diligently searching for a music lover who also happens to be an energetic Revenue Accountant to join our team.  The right person will be passionate about working for a company that lives its brand and delivers on its promise to create the ultimate home music experience. This job is based in the Santa Barbara, CA office.

Position Summary: 

The Revenue Accountant will be hands on and will be a key team member to interact and coordinate with colleagues across all regions (AMPAC, EMEA, Australia, China) as well as various cross-functional departments (FP&A, Sales Operations, Business Operations, Legal, A/R, IT) to ensure proper revenue accounting treatment, execution of the revenue accounting function, and reporting of results. This role will be responsible for several aspects of the Company’s revenue accounting processes including contract review, application of appropriate revenue guidance, and timely reporting on a monthly basis. In addition, this position will be responsible for technical accounting research, accounting memo preparation, and review and improvement of controls related to revenue. The Revenue Accountant will play a key role in the accounting organization around change management, process improvement, scaling accounting infrastructures and standardizing processes globally. This position reports to the Revenue Accounting Manager based in Santa Barbara.

What You’ll Do
  • Responsible for certain month end close activities including the Company’s sales incentives and Market Development Funds (MDF) accruals, returns provision, and bad debt accruals
  • Prepare the Company’s deferred revenue entries including ensuring channel reported data integrity  
  • Assist with the Company’s adoption of ASC 606
  • Review revenue-related contracts to determine proper revenue recognition methodology, including documenting key contract terms
  • Develop, document and implement accounting policies and procedures as necessary
  • Interface with teams throughout the Company and effectively communicate and educate individuals on revenue recognition requirements
  • Be a US GAAP technical accounting resource by providing guidance, performing research and preparing accounting memos 
  • Work closely with the Revenue Accounting Manager to build out new processes and structure addressing and improving the month end close processes
  • Prepare and present analyses, summarize findings, and develop reporting of contra revenue results on a monthly basis
  • Collaborate with external and internal auditors to ensure audit requirements are met
  • Work closely with the Revenue Accounting Manager on the implementation of strategic plans, projects, programs and systems
  • Monitor, enforce, and when appropriate, establish policies and procedures necessary for mitigating risk, enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensuring that reported results comply with US GAAP
  • Assist with revenue-related system update/upgrade efforts as needed 
  • Various special projects and ad hoc analyses as assigned
Skills You’ll Need
  • Bachelor degree in accounting or finance
  • 2-4 years of professional accounting experience. Experience can be a combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
  • Multi-national company, consumer electronics experience preferred
  • Knowledge of ASC 605 and ASC 606
  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong attention to detail 
  • High integrity, self-aware, humble, low ego
  • CPA license or CPA eligible
