Head of Content & Brand Voice

The Head of Content & Brand Voice owns  content for Sonos Owned channels of communication. They conceive of and launch new editorial projects and produce original content to make those projects come to life. They will also support other teams that require storytelling assistance. 

This individual is an expert in all things related to culture and product content, channel optimization, brand consistency, segmentation and localization, analytics and meaningful measurement. The position collaborates with cultural marketing and activation resources to help define both the brand story and the story as interpreted by the customer.  Reports to the Global Creative Director and is located in our Santa Barbara Office.

What You’ll Do

  • Leading the development of content initiatives in all forms. This includes:
  • Owns Brand Tone of Voice 
  • Responsible for social media,, Sonos Blog, Retail, and other owned platforms as needed (events, Studio Zine, Podcast content, partner activations, etc.). They will also test and learn about new and innovative editorial approaches as they emerge. 
  • Ensures all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, point of purchase, mobile, video, print and 3D. 
  • Mapping out a content strategy that supports and extends marketing initiatives, both short and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why. Continuous evolvement of strategy is a must. 
  • Collaborates with cross-functional partners in development of a functional content calendar.
  • Manages an internal and external team of writers, editors, and content strategists. Be the arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, writing, and style. 
  • Integration of content activities within traditional marketing campaigns. 
  • Build relationships with content outlets and develop syndicated partnerships
  • Conducts ongoing tests to gauge content effectiveness. Gathers data and handles analytics (or supervise those who do) and make recommendations based on those results. 
  • Develops standards, systems and best practices (both human and technological) for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies. 
  • Establishes a work flow for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content. 
  • Supervises the maintenance of content inventories.
  • Ensures a consistent global experience and implementation of appropriate localization/translation.
  • Nurses a consistent brand message across channels. 
Skills You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Design or related communications field. 
  • 7-10 years of experience as a respected leader in multichannel content creation (publishing, journalism, social media, etc.). 
  • Experience with creating compelling messages for different target demographics. 
  • Expertise in all major business software applications (Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Proven editorial skills. Outstanding command of the English language. 
  • Trained in how to tell a story using a combination of words, images, or audio and package it for use across multiple channels.
  • The ability to lead and inspire teams of creative personnel and content creators to achieve company's stated goals. 
  • The ability to think like an educator, intuitively understanding what the audience needs to know and how they want to consume it. 
  • A passion for new technology tools and usage of those tools within your own blogs and social media outreach. 
  • Able to travel between Sonos domestic and international offices on an as needed basis. 
  • Incredible people skills. 
  • A willingness to embrace change and to adapt strategies on the fly. 
  • Experience creating a library of content.
