Hardware Creative Technologist

Department: Design and Creative

Location: Santa Barbara

Req#: 5038

At Sonos we are passionate about inspiring the world to listen better. Whether it’s a new release on Spotify, the latest edition of the Daily, or that award winning series on Netflix, we believe that when people listen better they live better. We strive to bring that mission to life by providing our customers with a best-in-class experience. Experience Planning plays a key role in this work, conducting investigations that progress our experience and differentiate Sonos’ products and services. If you are a passionate explorer with a desire to change the status quo, read on.

Creative Technologists are a key component of our Experience Planning (XP) team. The Sonos XP team sits between the Hardware and Software organizations and investigates questions of high ambiguity and subjectivity that impact the Sonos experience. XP pursues its work across four lenses: Opportunity, Technology, User Behavior, & Design. Each Lens is supported by a functional discipline: Portfolio Planning brings a product management perspective to Market Opportunities, Creative Technologists bring an engineering perspective to emerging and enabling technologies, User Research brings a user perspective, and Experience Design (XD) applies research and design perspectives to understanding and designing for User Behaviors.

The Creative Technologist is an equal partner to their counterparts who sit in Planning, User Research, and Design within Experience Planning. The Creative Technologist collaborates with the Planning function to assess current and developing technologies that have implications on our core business. Simultaneously, the Creative technologist works closely with User Research & Design functions to scope, build, and test functional prototypes with users.
