As the Director, First Experience Technology, you will operate as the leader for all technologies associated with making the first touch of a Sonos system ultimate  and a small team which shares your passion.  We often hear from our customers, “once you’ve used it, you have to have it”.  This role will chart a technology path to introduce Sonos to music lovers all over the globe.  Your charter includes the technology that drives our Retail store in New York City, Store in Stores in China, Demo and Displays in retail locations world-wide.


Your team is comprised of software developers, systems and network engineers, and operations project management.  You will shape the architecture and development of unique, interactive and personalized direct-to-consumer technology designed to replicate the ultimate home music experience; you’ll also be responsible for ensuring the overall technology needs are properly aligned (this includes working with both Sonos internal departments and external vendors). Your mission: to support our experience teams’ ongoing effort to improve every customer’s first experience with Sonos.

 

Nothing brings the power of our products to life like a hands-on experience of how Sonos works. It’s by far the most inspiring way to showcase our amazingly integrated listening experience and help customers quickly grasp what Sonos can bring to their homes and their lives. This is the mission of this role; you will lead architecture, development, and problem-solving efforts related to our experience technology to ensure we’re delivering our intent. You will work with Sonos’ professionals in UI/UX, Brand, Retail, Product Design/Development, Platforms & Infrastructure to build and deliver solutions to showcase Sonos products, data analytics, in-store technology tools and more.

 

In addition, you will lead a small team of multi-talented engineers who will be responsible for implementing our experience vision and will be the go-to resource for technology questions of all kinds for the experience team.

What You’ll Do

Your role is broad. You will oversee infrastructure design and operations, software and systems development, manage a roadmap and product a strategy which positions Sonos for growth.  Your day to day activities would include:

 

Develop and implement a strategy of moving the technology stack to a cloud hosted model, applying DevOps methodologies.

 

Hire a strong development team that understands their role and is up to speed.

 

Systems support that allows development and deployment of new content in ways that are successfully used by non-technical users.

 

Ensure documentation is of high quality so operations support staff are capable of dealing with most day-to-day operations issues without involving your team.

 

Develop solid relationships with your team and throughout Sonos. You provide support that enables each individual team member to deliver their best – whether that person is a direct report or not.

 

Obsess about the customer journey: how your technology evolves with that journey in a unique and personal way.

Skills You’ll Need

You have exceptional people management and leadership capability. You can execute against and create strategy that delivers clear results. You have a non-traditional approach to solving problems and are willing to draw outside the lines to find new ways to impact common problems. 

 

You are passionate about not just meeting requirements, but delivering an experience that will make people excited about Sonos. 

 

Strong knowledge of Cloud Computing and understand and advocate for DevOps methodology.  You understand how to transform to a cloud based technology environment.

 

You have a proven track record of being a top performer in a fast-paced and highly flexible, interactive environment. You can communicate effectively with non-technical people and with people from very different backgrounds. You’re operational and hands-on.

 

Development: 5+ years’ experience leading a development team

 

Agile: Experience delivering products using Agile management.

 

Experience working with consumer products and an understanding of building innovative technology experiences for customers is essential.
