Developer Advocate - Technical Product Manager

As a Developer Advocate, you will be working with a team to engage the community of development partners and make them successful in creating the Ultimate In-Home Music Experience using Sonos APIs. You will help grow and support our developer ecosystem through online channels by writing blog posts, answering questions on StackOverflow and represent Sonos at relevant conferences and hack events. This will include finding key developer communities to engage, driving communication through various developer channels and growing the community as a self-supporting and scalable group. 

As an advocate for developers and partners, you will listen to the community to understand their needs. You will work closely with the software teams at Sonos to bring these requirements and influence the evolution of the Sonos platform through prioritized partner requirements and your strong negotiation skills. 

As a successful candidate, you are passionate about music and technology, you can confidently talk about code with developers, and you can explain complex technology in simple terms. You should be able to write code, troubleshoot technical problems and guide developers to success.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the developer community in creating joyful experiences with Sonos APIs through consultation, examples and style guides.
  • Assist in the support of the developer community including working with internal PMs and teams to implement platform changes in a way that is flexible for multiple partners.
  • Collect feedback and intelligence from the developer community and work with other Developer Advocates to use this information to drive the evolution of our APIs and developer tools.
  • Help partners through the onboarding process to launch their products on Sonos.
  • Help partners through Sonos certification, specifically with root-causing complex problems, and use their feedback to drive improvements of the certification process.
  • Participate in developer outreach at relevant conferences, hack-a-thons, trade shows, etc.
  • Identify and create content needed to bring continuing education to the Sonos Developer community.
Skills You’ll Need
  • 2+ years of recent experience as a developer advocate/evangelist or platform product manager.
  • BS Degree in CS or related.
  • Strong public speaking skills, experience presenting to technical audiences.
  • Proven writing skills demonstrated via technical and inspirational blog posts or similar public written contributions.
  • Decisive, action-oriented individual who learns quickly, works independently, and takes ownership of open issues.
  • Collaborative spirit and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Web Protocols such as REST, SOAP and Websockets.
  • Established social media presence or established network in the music service industry.
  • Familiarity with mobile development platforms (Android / iOS / Windows).
  • Familiarity with the UX and business model of various music services.
