Big Data, Software Engineering, Test

Department: Platforms and Infrastructure

Location: Santa Barbara, Seattle

Req#: 5389

At Sonos, we are passionate about bringing music into every home.  To fulfill this mission, we
have developed an unquenchable thirst for data.  We use data to understand how our products
are performing, which features need to be improved, design future products, optimize our
supply chain and sales channel performance, and learn how our customers experience music in
their homes.

The IOT & Big Data team works closely with teams from across Sonos to collect and process the massive amounts of IOT data generated by the millions of speakers across the world. This collaboration ensures the Data Platform and Processes team provides scalable insights that are used to analyze performance and shape features as well as to understand how well products perform in the field, which features customers use the most and how best to support their overall experiences.

The IOT & Big Data team is looking for a quality engineer to develop the infrastructure and methodology to test and verify the quality of our big-data platform, adapting to support new technologies to ensure cost-effective scalability.

About You

More than a candidate that checks every box, we’re looking for people who are excited to work, learn, and grow at Sonos—no matter their background or how they identify. If that’s you, we hope you’ll apply for this role.

You want to be part of a team.

You love to listen.

You approach every interaction with curiosity and a desire to understand. You want to make a positive impact in the world. You’re passionate about culture and know the power that music, film, podcasts, games, and stories have to bring people together.

What You’ll Do
  • You will be the only quality engineer on the team, which provides an exciting challenge as the test infrastructure, frameworks and methodology need to be defined and developed from scratch
  • This is a collaborative team and you will work closely with the architect and developers in designing, developing, testing, delivering, and supporting features
  • Engineer new automated testing methodologies
  • Add and democratize new forms of telemetry, data, and metrics to allow the team to measure, debug, and make decisions based on data analytics and dashboards

  • Ability to break down complex problems into elegant, testable pieces
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise with:
    • Jenkins (or other CI build systems)
    • Building and using automated test frameworks
    • Basic data analytic skills (Kibana, Grafana, DataDog)
    • Configuration Management and Deployment Tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
